Re: Is it worth the money?

I agree the price could be steep. I Love small cars. Ive owned, a classic mini cooper, mg midget, and an autobianchi. For me its about novelty and utility. My wife, daughter, dog and I will all fit in it. I work for Toyota. This will be the first time that I could buy a mini and stay with in the Toyota family.

I am hoping it will be comparably priced to the smart or less.

Re: Is it worth the money?

Being 'worth' the money can be a very subjective thing.
What do you want the car for, what will it be used for, what is your budget, etc?

Yes you can get a larger car than the smart fortwo and some even cost less. Very few, except hybrids get as good real-world mileage (I get 38 mpg in my fortwo in hard city driving). It isn't 100+ mpg, but it is 10 mpg better than I got with my scion xB before (28 MPG in town).

Does the car you want have the features you want/need, can you afford it? then maybe it is worth it? You only can decide.

Re: Is it worth the money?

I too looked at Smart Car but the price and the gas mileage pretty much the deal killer for me. Heck, I'm getting an average of 45 MPG city/hwy combo in my Civic VX.

The Toyota/Scion IQ is definitely what I'm looking for and I hope the pricing remains in the 13-17k range.

Re: Is it worth the money?

maybe you could get what I got last fall - Yaris 13.3 k and I get 37.5 combined (same as the Smart) - using 87 octane too.

You'll lose a mile or two with an automatic, and finding a Yaris manual with the Power Package in the United States took me nearly a year!!!.......turns out they literally only import 20 or so a year!

If you don't mind not having power windows, not a split folding rear seat, no power mirrors, and no sliding rear seat, you can get a manual version in your sleep.

Automatics are real easy to get - and the Power package versions are everywhere.

Re: Is it worth the money?

I agree, that is pretty steep for what it is. Like you said, for the money you can get a bigger car with similar gas mileage with more room, like a Honda fit for example.

I was also thinking of getting a smart with the same options as yours, but 15k-16k is pushing it....i was now leaning towards a a Pure model with A/C and the stereo. So if i could get one for 13k that's more reasonable. I don't know...I would much rather get the IQ, looks like a lot more car for the money, but from what i've been reading it doesn't seem like it's even official that the US will get the IQ. And even if we do, it won't be anytime soon i bet.

Is it worth the money?

I recently reserved a Smart Fortwo Passion but I am having second thoughts about spending (financing) 15k plus tax and license for such a small car with Power Steering, Fog Lamps, and Alarm as the only options you get for that price. I can buy a compact 4-door car that gets just about the same MPG for that price.

I want it for my commute to work (33 miles one way) and the novelty of it but the novelty is wearing off fast with the price.

I hope the IQ is more reasonably priced or that you at least get more for your buck with it.
