That it will be more fuel efficient than the Prius is no surprise. The Aygo diesel is already up there, even in city numbers.
It is the tail pipe emissions that we find the real news. Autobild.de talks about a "3 liter car" which means they expect fuel economy in the region of 33km/l = 78mpg.

Beating the Euro norm in a Toyota has proved not to be much of a challenge in the cars I have driven, so I expect this to be possible with the diesel.
