An all-electric car with a 50 mile range is truly worthless to me, as I frequently have to drive on 200 mile stints.

Hybrids do more ecological damage short and long term due to the battery materials. There is not enough lithium on the planet to make Li-Ions viable for all hybrid batteries, and Cadnium is a hazard to water tables.

As long as gasoline costs less than the equivalent in bottled water, a low emission gasser or diesel is the way to go.

I can't see the great appeal in gas when modern hybrids are so clean and an electric version is under development (see the FT-EV prototype). It makes sense to have a huge bus run on natural gas, or have a limited range gas tank like you have in some cars on the market today.

When it comes to the iQ on the market today, it is a close call between the 1.0 petrol and 1.4 diesel. The diesel just seems too performance oriented with 190Nm of torque and 90HP when comparing to the green/blue versions of other cars.
